Lecture - Chicago's Monuments and Memorials

Thursday, October 15, 2020
7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Free; Advance reservations required by October 14, 2020

Jennifer Scott will discuss the role of monuments and memorials in the Chicagoland area and beyond. Scott is co-chair of Chicago’s new citywide monuments project, launched in August which “will grapple with the often unacknowledged – or forgotten – history associated with the City’s various municipal art collections, and will provide a vehicle to address the hard truths of Chicago’s racial history, confront the ways in which that history has and has not been memorialized, and develop a framework for marking public space that elevates new ways to memorialize Chicago’s true and complete history.” Scott has a background in anthropology and public history, and has previously worked for the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum and the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience.

Advance reservations are required for this free program and can be made below. You will receive an immediate confirmation of your reservation on this page after your submission.  We will follow up with an email closer to the lecture date that will include a Zoom link.
