Step out with your family this summer to learn a bit of local history and enjoy a fun scavenger hunt around the village. You may know that John Westerfield was Wilmette’s first president, but did you know that he was also a pickle pioneer? Come and help find John Westerfield’s missing pickle barrels! All kids aged 13 and younger who are accompanied by an adult are eligible to participate in this free program organized by the Museum and the Wilmette/Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce. Families can pick up a scavenger hunt game board and directions at the Museum, the Youth Services Department in the Wilmette Public Library or the Baker Demonstration School office during their regular business hours. You can also download and print the scavenger hunt here by clicking the directions and board.
Kids who participate can win some great prizes! All kids who find Mr. Westerfield's pickle barrels at ten or more locations will receive a coupon for a free ice cream cone generously donated by Homer’s Ice Cream! Kids who find Mr. Westerfield's pickle barrels at fifteen or more locations will be eligible for a grand prize drawing with gifts generously donated by Lad & Lassie Shop, The Comix Gallery and the Wilmette Theatre.
