Many clothing manufacturers turned all of their resources to making uniforms, leaving little fashion design and even less fabric for the population left on the home front. Drawing on the collective desire to support "the troops," civilian men, women and children often opted for military styling in their clothing. The wool ensemble shown here was worn by Harold Webb, the donor's husband, while serving in the Pacific. The arrow on the sleeve is the Southern Cross insignia. |
