On March 5, 1898, Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard D. Harris, Jr. gave a party attended mainly by people who had lived in Wilmette for over 10 years. At the party, it was suggested that a permanent organization, to be known as "Ye Olde Towne Folks," be formed and temporary officers were elected. The group continued until 1969.
