Wilmette Garden Club

In July 1922, seven women dedicated to nature and gardening formed the "Little Garden Club," later known as the "Wilmette Garden Club." The mission of the club was to help in amateur gardening and to assist in the protection of native trees, plants, and birds. The membership eventually grew to approximately 65. Members held small flower shows, conducted plant exchanges, visited each other's gardens and arranged tours to places like Indiana Dunes. They also provided a weekly "Garden Talk" column in Wilmette Life. The Club's first annual garden market and public plant sale was held in 1927 with proceeds going to civic beautification. The Club has helped with plantings at several schools, Wilmette Public Library, and other public places around Wilmette.
