The Wilmette Centennial Commission was formed in early 1970 to plan events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the Village of Wilmette. Celebration activities included a street fair, parade, sale of souvenir tiles, and the presentation of "Outstanding Citizen" awards each month. The first, now annual, "Student Government Day" for 7th and 8th graders was held as a joint project of the Centennial Commission and the League of Women Voters. The Commission's final report was presented in December 1972.
