The idea of forming a Little League in Wilmette was the brainchild of John L. Bordes, a Wilmette resident and former professional ball player. In the fall of 1951, he applied for and obtained a charter from Little League, Inc. In 1952, some 200 boys, ages 8 and 12, signed up and through the generosity of the Chicago White Sox, the League received 60 uniforms and assorted equipment. The first games were played at Washington Park (now Gillson Park), but in 1952 the League obtained land from the Roemer family and "Roemer Park" was dedicated in June, 1953. The Pony League for 13-14 year olds and a Ladies Auxillary were added in 1953. In 1981 there were 800 boys enrolled in the program. Box #1
